Oh man, what a day! I’ve been to all sorts of places today: SWAMP Trailhead, Silver Lake Recreation Area, River Junction, Land Bridge Trailhead and Santos. I took the day off from work and spent the entire day hiking and mountain biking.
I’ll post more in detail on each place later today and tomorrow.
I started out watching the sun come up over the Withlacoochee River at River Junction. The fog was thick over the water, frogs and birds were ushering in the daylight. After that I headed over to the SWAMP-maintained trails near Tucker Hill. Awesome riding as usual, I didn’t go too far because I had a big list of places I wanted to visit. It’s nice to have these trails so close to home.
Next on my list was a short hike in the same area, only a couple of miles on the Florida Trail. Every time I get on the trail I have to pull myself away, my mind gets to wandering and I get into that familiar hiking groove. Having put my feet on the trail for a little bit, I drove over to the Land Bridge trailhead and rode my trusty aluminum steed over the I-75 Land Bridge and back out. Unfortunately, I think Cletus and his pals have been hanging out up on the bridge, there were quite a few broken Bud Light bottles.
To finish it all up, I hit the trails at Santos. I don’t have to be the one to tell you that Santos is the ultimate place to ride in the Central Florida area. From beginners to hardcore advanced riders, this is the place for you. When you have a park that has double black diamond trails, you know it going to be really good or really bad depending on your skill level. I darn near snapped my foot off last year out in the freeride area and had a high ankle sprain that lasted for about six months.
Anyway, I had a great day. I’ll show you more about these places in posts to come!
