On Saturday, April 12, the familiar trails of the Withlacoochee State Forest were home to a brand new triathlon-style race – a paddle/mountain bike/run.
The (organizers hope) annual Croom Quest started at Nobleton Canoe Outpost around 8 a.m. with 10 miles of paddling on the Withlacoochee River. Then it was biking (in sweltering heat) to Tucker Hill Fire Tower, running a 11.5-mile loop on the Florida Trail, and another bike ride from Tucker Hill back to Nobleton (20 miles of biking in all).
About 30 people participated in the small but friendly race put on by WeCeFAR (West Central Florida Adventure Racing club – www.wecefar.com).
