Austin Cary Memorial Forest - Gainesville

So today was the 4H Forestry Contest out at Austin Cary Memorial Forest in between Gainesville and Waldo. I went up as a group leader and while the 4H’ers were out on the contest, I walked around and took some nice pictures for you to enjoy.

The Austin Cary Memorial Forest is owned by the University of Florida and is used as a training facility for those enrolled in the School of Forestry. It features a really nice lodge, some historical forestry memorabilia, tools, etc. There’s a nice little trail with markers for the different tree species. There’s also lots of ticks so either wear a full body wetsuit or apply some bug spray. I recommend the latter.

Check out the pictures in the gallery.

Snow in Florida

Snow in Florida

It snowed this morning! Snow, sleet - whatever. We don’t get much of either, so anything that collects and is icy white gets called snow. We’ve had a week or so of really strange weather! Video taken in Inverness, Florida with a Canon Powershot SD780 IS.

Rain at Iron Bridge

Just a little video of a rainy day at the Iron Bridge area in the Withlacoochee State Forest. I just sat there (rain jacket on, of course) and watched it rain for about an hour. Good stuff.
