On Saturday we drove up to White Springs to attend the Florida Trail Hiking Festival. The traffic on I-75 was insane so we got off the interstate and went up 441 for a bit, stopping in Micanopy for a quick lunch. We saw a dude riding an ox, followed by an Australian Shepard, followed by a big white goose. They were riding right through town. Awesome!
OK, back to the Festival. Having never attended this event, I expected there to be more going on. The Florida Trail Association folks are a great bunch, but Florida hiking needs a real shot in the arm. Maybe my understanding of the event is all wrong. Perhaps it’s just an event directed more towards existing Florida Trail members and more of a get-together than anything else…
Oh yes, we locked our keys in our vehicle too. We walked up to the ranger station at the front entrance and used their phone to call a locksmith. After a 30 minute wait, the fella was there and in less than a minute our doors were unlocked! 60 bucks well spent. If you are ever in the White Springs/Live Oak area and pull a stunt like this, give Wayne at A-1 Lock a call.
